What managing property in North Reading actually involves
North Reading's condominiums are townhouse and garden-style communities built mostly from the 1980s on, some with age restrictions, plus a few newer developments near the Reading and Wilmington lines. Rental buildings of three units or more are rare. Boards here spend on roads, roofs and septic or sewer connections more than on the units themselves.
Town departments are at North Reading Town Hall on North Street. Route 28 and Route 62 connect the town to Reading, Andover and Route 93; there is no commuter rail. The town's commercial buildings are concentrated along Main Street.
What owners in North Reading deal with
North Reading has been working since 2014 on plans to build a municipal sewer system for Main Street, Concord Street and parts of Lowell Road, North Street and Park Street, with flow going to the Greater Lawrence Sanitary District plant in North Andover. October 2021 Town Meeting appropriated $2,893,000 for design, but on May 20, 2024 the Select Board voted 3-0 to end that planning, so buildings in town stay on their own septic systems. A 2020 state water decision notes that water used in town is discharged through local septic systems. Drinking water comes in part from Andover, which has supplied North Reading since 1974, and that 2020 decision allows purchases of up to 3.0 million gallons a day. The Building, Health and Conservation departments and DPW are all at Town Hall, 235 North Street.
